I Am Yoga encourages children to explore the world of Yoga and make room in their hearts for the world beyond it. These drawing show kids to imitate the poses and get used to the idea of doing yoga. It is a nice introduction to yoga and mindfulness.
Susan Verde’s lyrical language meshes well with Reynolds’s peaceful, tranquil cartoon illustrations, done in soft tones. This book is fun to read, the narration encourages movement, and the author notes and information on each pose at the end of the book are great teaching tools.
It is a delightful introduction to the subject as well as a wonderful read-aloud for movement and mindfulness. The empowering affirmations and playful illustrations will inspire both children and adults to slow down and strike a pose.
The Yoga Bible: The Definitive Guide to Yoga
The Yoga Bible is a comprehensive guide to practicing yoga and finding a mental and physical balance in life, and it has nothing to do with religion.
It is a handy reference guide to many yoga poses, how to perform them and is 400 pages with more than 170 yoga positions demonstrated from the main schools of yoga.
The book starts by answering “What is yoga?” and it goes on to mention yoga’s many benefits. It talks about the eight limbs of yoga so you can have an idea of what they are and see if one is right for you.
It offers help and suggestions on topics like how you practice and how often to practice, along with advice on how to improve your practice. Sometimes you might just want to bring more challenge to your practice and she covers that.
It mentions how yoga is more than just an occasional exercise and how many people build yoga into their daily lives. This might take the form of doing something as simple as taking a minute or two during the day to watch your breathing.
The book goes into the practice of poses and shows how to perform them correctly. It talks about various types of poses from warmup poses to standing poses along with seated and floor postures, twists, abdominal moves and much more, to help you strengthen your core. Also mentioned is backbends and balancing plus sections on relaxation and breathing.
It is a well made book and it is easy to follow as you get shown how to perform the different poses and also there are helpful pointers.
Yoga brings not only a suppleness to the body but also a sense of spiritual and physical well-being to those who practice it.
